Waterbury’s North End Residents Invited to Help Shape Neighborhood’s Housing Future

NEST invites Waterbury residents to second North Main Street Master Plan community meeting Thursday, November 5, with housing opportunities, neighborhood priorities and community input on the agenda.

WATERBURY — What should the future of North Main Street look like? More housing opportunities? Stronger neighborhoods? Better connections between residents, businesses and community resources?

Those are some of the questions being brought directly to Waterbury residents as the planning process for the North Main Street corridor continues.

Neighborhood Housing Services of Waterbury (NEST) is inviting residents, property owners, renters, business owners and other community stakeholders to participate in the second meeting of its North Main Street Master Plan series on Thursday, November 5.

The meeting will focus specifically on the area’s housing vision and how future housing opportunities can contribute to a stronger, more vibrant neighborhood.

The goal is to bring the community into the conversation before decisions about the corridor’s future are finalized.

Housing and the Future of North Main Street

The North Main Street Master Plan is an opportunity to examine the neighborhood’s future through the perspectives of the people who live, work and operate businesses in the area.

Organizers are encouraging residents to share their ideas, identify neighborhood priorities and discuss what changes could make North Main Street a better place to live.

The November 5 meeting will provide an opportunity to:

  • Share ideas and priorities for the neighborhood.
  • Learn about potential housing opportunities.
  • Connect with neighbors and community leaders.
  • Help guide the future vision for the North Main Street corridor.

Community participation is particularly important during the planning process because residents bring firsthand knowledge of their neighborhoods, including the challenges, opportunities and changes they would like to see.

Your Voice, Your Neighborhood, Your Future

The November 5 gathering is part of a three-meeting community series designed to incorporate public input into the final North Main Street Master Plan.

For residents unable to attend Thursday’s meeting, additional opportunities to participate will be available through the remaining meetings in the series.

The broader message from organizers is that neighborhood planning should include the people who will ultimately live with the results.

Whether you rent, own a home, operate a business, work in the area or simply care about the future of North Main Street, organizers are encouraging you to take part.

The future of a neighborhood is shaped by more than plans on paper. It also depends on the people who show up, share their experiences and contribute to the conversation.

For Waterbury residents, Thursday evening is another opportunity to have a voice in what comes next.
