WATERBURY, CT — Schools in the Highland Avenue area, including Tinker Elementary and Kennedy High School, were placed on lockdown Tuesday early afternoon following reports of individuals possibly displaying firearms while traveling on mopeds.
According to initial scanner traffic and caller reports, two males—described as one Hispanic and one Black—were seen in the area allegedly displaying what appeared to be firearms. At this time, no direct threats to either school have been confirmed by authorities.
Out of an abundance of caution, school officials initiated lockdown procedures while law enforcement responded and secured the surrounding area.
Police have not yet confirmed whether any weapons were recovered or whether the individuals have been located.
This is a developing situation. More information will be provided as it becomes available.
