One Dead, Multiple People Hospital in Following Early Morning Crash on Chase Avenue in Waterbury

18-Year-Old Waterbury Man Killed in Chase Avenue Crash; Driver Remains Critical

WATERBURY, CT — An 18-year-old Waterbury man has died and several others were injured following a serious overnight crash on Chase Avenue, according to the Waterbury Police Department.

Police said officers were notified at approximately 12:50 a.m. on May 17, 2026, of a serious motor vehicle accident in the area of 91 Chase Avenue.

Investigators determined that a Subaru Legacy carrying three occupants and a Mazda 3i carrying three occupants collided, causing heavy disabling damage to both vehicles.

According to police, the three occupants of the Subaru were transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The three occupants of the Mazda were also transported to a local hospital. Police said the operator of the Mazda remains in critical condition with life-threatening injuries, while another passenger sustained non-life-threatening injuries and is listed in stable condition.

The third passenger in the Mazda, identified as Luis Cisneros Fletes, 18, of Waterbury, died Sunday morning from injuries sustained in the crash.

The incident remains an active and ongoing investigation being handled by the Waterbury Police Department’s Crash Reconstruction Unit.

WATERBURY, CT — One person has died and five others were hospitalized following a serious overnight crash on Chase Avenue, according to the Waterbury Police Department.

Police said officers responded to the area of Chase Avenue and Hill Street at approximately 12:50 a.m. Sunday for a reported motor vehicle accident involving two vehicles.

Investigators determined that a Subaru Legacy carrying several occupants and a Mazda 3i carrying three occupants collided, causing heavy damage to both vehicles.

According to police, the three occupants of the Subaru were transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The three occupants of the Mazda were also transported to a local hospital. Police said the driver remains in critical condition, while one passenger sustained non-life-threatening injuries and is listed in stable condition.

A second passenger in the Mazda, identified as 18-year-old Luis Cisneros Fletes of Waterbury, later died from injuries sustained in the crash.

The incident remains under investigation by the Waterbury Police Department’s Crash Reconstruction Unit.
