Congressional Watch CT-05: Hayes Makes Memorial Day Appearance in Waterbury

The Waterbury Times|Congressional Watch|May 25, 2026

Waterbury- U.S. Representative Jahana Hayes spent part of Memorial Day weekend in Waterbury alongside the Waterbury Veterans Memorial Committee, honoring fallen service members and recognizing veterans connected to the U.S. Navy Submarine Service during World War II.

In a social media post shared Sunday, Hayes described the event as a “reflective afternoon” surrounded by “neighbors & friends committed to always remembering our past in hopes to build a more resilient future.”

The appearance comes as communities across Connecticut marked Memorial Day through ceremonies, wreath layings, and veterans tributes while the nation begins observing America’s 250th anniversary period leading into 2026.

Waterbury’s deep military history continues to play a central role in local Memorial Day observances. Generations of residents have served in conflicts ranging from World War II to Iraq and Afghanistan, with local veterans organizations and memorial committees working to preserve those stories for future generations.

Hayes, who represents Connecticut’s 5th Congressional District, has regularly appeared at veterans-related events throughout the district, particularly in cities like Waterbury where military service remains closely tied to neighborhood and family history.

The Waterbury Veterans Memorial Committee has long organized ceremonies and remembrance efforts throughout the city, helping maintain public recognition for local veterans and those who never returned home.

As Memorial Day observances continue across the region, events like these serve as reminders that remembrance is not only national — but deeply local.
