WATERBURY — Waterbury Police are investigating the death of a 34-year-old woman after officers located her 3-year-old child wandering alone in the area of Poplar Street Friday morning.
According to the Waterbury Police Department, patrol officers were dispatched to the Poplar Street area at approximately 10:52 a.m. on Sept. 25, 2026, following a report of a young child walking through the neighborhood without an adult.
Officers located the child, who police said showed no signs of abuse or neglect.
As part of their follow-up investigation, officers responded to a home on Alder Street in an effort to locate and make contact with the child’s mother. Police entered the residence and found the woman unresponsive.
The woman was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency medical personnel.
At this stage of the investigation, police said detectives did not observe any obvious signs of foul play.
The circumstances surrounding the woman’s death remain under investigation.
“This remains an active and ongoing investigation,” police said.
